When it comes to content planning, many business owners feel overwhelmed. There are so many things to consider – what should I write about? How often should I post? What type of content gets the best results? Here are 3 tips for planning content that drives results:
Table of Contents
Search for inspiration related to your industry or niche
There are tons of great resources out there for finding content inspiration – blogs, social media platforms, and more. Spend some time exploring these resources and see what topics grab your attention. Once you have a few ideas in mind, start brainstorming ways to spin those topics into content that will resonate with your audience.
My favorite way to seek inspiration is through Pinterest. You can find inspiration for just about anything on this platform, and there are endless possibilities for content creation.
Not all content is created equal. There are different types of content that can be used to achieve different objectives. If your goal is to generate leads, for example, you’ll want to focus on creating content that is easy to share and that will capture people’s attention (think infographics, eBooks, etc.). On the other hand, if your goal is to increase brand awareness, you’ll want to create content that is educational and informative.
The key here is to align your content strategy with your overall business goals.
Side note: be sure to not EVER directly copy someone else’s content. This is not only plagiarism, but it will also look bad to people in your community that may know or follow the person that inspired you. If you have to question if it’s too close, it probably is. Also, adding your own unique spin to popular topics will help you stand out in a sea of sameness and build trust with your audience.
Make a list of your ideas and start mapping out a content calendar
When I am content planning, brainstorming ideas is one of the most important steps of my process. I like to use Notion to organize all of my thoughts into tables as well as keep track of what I have already used recently.
If you prefer the pen and paper method, I recommend keeping a separate legal pad for content planning.
Once you have a good list of ideas, it’s time to start putting them into a content calendar. This will help you stay organized and on track with your content goals. When creating your content calendar, be sure to consider things like frequency, target audience, format, and desired outcome.
If you are not good at staying on top of this step, set a weekly reminder to set aside one hour for brainstorming content ideas. This will help keep your content planning top of mind and ensure that you are always thinking ahead.
Save trending sounds you want to use for reels
If you see a trend that you want to use in your content, save the sound or video clip so you can reference it later. This will help make sure your content is timely and relevant. I like to go back through and clean up my sounds list every month or so to delete saved sounds I have already used or sounds that are no longer relevant.
If you are ever in a bind on which sounds are trending, reference the Instagram “creators” account. They post each week’s trending sounds so you can stay up to date.
Content planning doesn’t have to be a pain. If you are prepared, it can even be fun! By following these tips, you can develop a content strategy that works for you and your business.
