5 Questions to Answer for a Killer Instagram Account

It is no secret that you need to have your business on social media. The question is, which social media platform should you focus on? For small businesses and entrepreneurs, the answer is often Instagram.

Why? Because Instagram is a visual platform that is perfect for promoting products and services. Plus, with over 800 million users, it’s the perfect place to reach a large audience. There are unlimited opportunities for success on Instagram, but you need to make sure your account is set up for success.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of five questions you need to ask yourself for a killer Instagram account.

What is the purpose of my Instagram account?

Your first step is to determine the purpose of your Instagram account and understanding the goals you want to achieve. On a platform that is highly saturated, it is not enough to simply want to “gain followers.” Do you want to increase brand awareness? Drive traffic to your website? Increase sales? Once you know what you want to achieve, you can create content that aligns with those goals.

Who is my target audience?

It’s not enough to have a general idea of who your target audience is. You need to be specific. What are the demographics of your ideal customer? What interests them? What pain points do you solve for them? For instance, if you are a sustainable beauty company, your target audience is likely women who are environmentally conscious and care about the ingredients in their products. Thus, your content should align with these values.

What is my brand personality?

Your brand’s personality should be reflected in your Instagram account. Are you fun and quirky, or more serious and professional? Do you want to come across as luxurious, or down to earth? It’s important to stay true to your brand identity across all of your social platforms.

If you are a clothing company that takes pride in its affordable price point, for example, you don’t want to post high-end fashion shots that will confuse your audience. Additionally, if you are a luxury brand, you don’t want to curate a cluttered feed with too much content that will water down your brand’s message.

What kind of content should I post?

Once you know who your target audience is and what your brand personality is, it’s time to start creating content. This includes everything from the photos and videos you post, to the captions you write.

Your content should be creative and engaging, while still staying true to your brand. If you are a restaurant, for instance, post photos of your food in an interesting setting, or videos of cooking demonstrations. If you are a travel company, post photos and videos of different destinations. The possibilities are endless!

If you are having trouble coming up with content ideas, I recommend scheduling a weekly planning hour and using Notion to brainstorm ideas and keep track of what is working and what needs tweaking.

Don’t be afraid to switch it up! If you have been posting the same type of content for a while and it’s no longer working, try something new.

What is my posting frequency?

Once you have a content strategy in place, it’s important to stick to a posting schedule. This will help keep your account active and ensure that your followers know what to expect from you. Gone are the days of needing to post daily. I recommend posting a mix of original content and curated content at least three to five times per week and tracking the results of your efforts.

Remember, quality over quantity! If you can’t produce high-quality content, it’s better to not post at all than to post something that is mediocre.
