Tuning into your Most Creative Self

When it comes to being creative, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Some people such as my friend Catie, owner of Cedar June Studio, find inspiration in the great outdoors. Others prefer to stay indoors and be surrounded by their own thoughts. However you choose to get in touch with your creative side, there are some techniques that can help boost your creativity and allow you to come up with your best ideas. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips for finding inspiration and getting in touch with your most creative self!

Be Authentic

Being authentic to yourself during the creative process is also key. This means being honest about what you want to create and not trying to please everyone else. It can be tempting to try to make something that you think will be popular or go viral, but this often leads to creative blocks and frustration. Instead, focus on making something that is true to you and your unique voice.

Connect with Creatives

I first realized I was a creative when I began to spend time with other creative people. I love spending time with my friend KL who is a model, photographer, and makeup artist. She and I have met up many times in the past to take photos and get inspired. KL always reminds me how important it is to get creative as a way of expressing yourself, and encourages others to do so via her platform on Instagram.

Explore

One of the best ways to find inspiration is to simply get out there and start exploring. Take a walk in nature, visit a new city, or attend a local art show. The more you expose yourself to new things, the more likely you are to find something that sparks your creativity. If you’ve never been to your local museum, that is a great place to start.

My #1 favorite way to tune into my creativity is to travel abroad. I love learning about new cultures and how they view the world. My trip to Paris inspired me to find my true personal style and dress for myself and not others. It also inspired my recent rebrand. For me, there is nothing more inspiring than seeing the world. If traveling isn’t an option for you, another great way to get exposed to new ideas is to read books or blogs about other cultures.

Creative Resources

If you’re having trouble getting started, there are tons of resources out there to help. A few books that really helped my social media journey are Instastyle by Tessa Barton, Capture Your Style by Aimee Song, and Love Style Life by Garance DorĂ©. All of these books were picked up along my journey of becoming a fashion blogger. They tell tales of fashion and creativity and how to express your personal style in the digital world.

A great resource you’ll hear me talk about all the time is Pinterest. Pinterest is a platform that allows you to curate images and ideas from around the web. It’s great for finding inspiration for your next project, no matter the plane of creativity. I have an entire board dedicated to my blog, which includes pins on everything from how to start a blog to what kind of content I should be creating.

No matter what your creative outlet may be, I hope this post has inspired you to get out there and start expressing yourself! Remember to be authentic, explore new things, and most importantly, have fun with it. The world is your oyster! What will you create next?
